Are there dangers in being 'spiritual but not religious'?

As much as I DON'T like to admit it, I think there are :(

I think that it is a mistake to consider man as a lone creature. We are closer to Ants than we are to Leopards. We got technology because of the COMBINED effort of the scientific COMMUNITY. In the same way, there are spiritual achievements (realizing the human potential) that require a community effort, a supporting human environment. There is room for variations within spiritual communities (religions), but there is also a bond.

"Spiritual but not Religious" people, or "Religiousless religious" as I call myself, tend to renounce religion because of what is done in religion's name, or as part of a rebellion, out of sheer ignorance, and (above all?) laziness.

There is a sense of FREEDOM in going around the world (either physically, or by reading), listening to what wise people had to say about life, and choosing the things that resonate within you, it's the EASIEST thing in the world!
It's much more difficult to SUBDUE to the specific spiritual heritage you happened to be born in and grow in, and FIND your individual way within it.

Being the content and lazy bastard that I am ;)  AND realizing the deep spiritual values inherent in contentment, laziness, and ease, I am not complaining. Read a bit of Taoism and you'll never feel too bad about your laziness again :)

However, perhaps as one progresses, one can feel also the inherent limitations of that freedom, both personally and socially, and not just limitations, also its negative consequences.
